In February 2020, SMPC and the W.E. Upjohn Institute received a grant through EDA to update the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. The CEDS is a vital planning document that can lead to the creation and retention of jobs and increased private investment, advance innovation, enhance the manufacturing capacities of the region, provide workforce development opportunities, and grow the economic ecosystem that attracts foreign direct investment. The updated CEDS will outline the economic conditions of the region, assess the strengths and weaknesses of the regional economy, and provide a blueprint for future economic improvement.

SMPC and the CEDS Committee would like input on the priorities expressed in the CEDS. This short survey (link) is intended to gather your input on the economic development goals and strategies that will be implemented in our region over the next five years. Your participation helps us prioritize the investments, projects, and partnerships that will strengthen our regional economy for everyone in southwest Michigan. If you need any assistance filling out the survey, please contact trueblood@upjohn.org.

The SMPC Team will hold a public meeting to share information about CEDS process and help SMPC finalize regional economic development goals and strategies, as well as provide opportunities for stakeholders to get involved with the CEDS. The meeting will take place virtually on Wednesday, December 9th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Registration is free and required. Register for the meeting here.
