SMPC engages in economic development by providing expertise to local groups, writing economic development plans, and consulting on economic development and community development projects. SMPC also assists local groups in procuring economic development funding through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA).
SMPC approved a Regional Economic Development Plan in June 2020.
The Southwest Michigan Prosperity Initiative was co-administered by SMPC but ceased operations in February 2020. The archive for that work is here.
SMPC intends to apply for a regional brownfield grant through the EPA and is looking for qualified firms to assist with that work – Regional Brownfield RFQ
